At Adelaide Pets Alive!, we understand that making the decision to surrender your pet is a difficult one.
Our organisation is required to manage intake based on finances, foster care availability and animals currently in care.
There are many pathways that a pet owner can take that will help you either to keep your pet or find it a home. We urge you to consider every alternative before you surrender your pet to a rescue organisation.

Rental Laws in SA
In South Australia, tenants applying to keep a pet in a rental premises can no longer have their application refused unless the refusal is based on a ground listed in the Residential Tenancies Act 1995.
A landlord or agent can’t state ‘no pets allowed' - unless pets are specifically prohibited in the property's strata, community title, rooming house or residential park rules - or charge a separate pet bond, although they can impose reasonable conditions regarding the type of pet and nature of the premises. Stay informed of your rights.

-
Rehoming fee – money can be a barrier for adoption and there is no correlation between how much someone pays for a pet and how much they love them. The key is a meet and greet and having a conversation with the person. But if you are needing to cover costs of updating your pets veterinary care, you can always ask for an adoption fee.
Surrender
Adelaide Pets Alive! treat every animal as an individual and each animal is important. We save the lives of healthy and treatable animals, and we do not kill animals. When all avenues are exhausted, euthanasia would be considered for medical concerns, public safety concerns, and concerns of quality-of-life. All euthanasia decisions are decided by our Board.
Surrendering your pet to Adelaide Pets Alive! means you are giving up all rights to that animal. We are not required to notify you of any development regarding health or status.
Due to our size, we generally cannot accept same day admissions. Please fill out all the questions on the Surrender Form and a team member will be in touch.
