Have you ever embraced a person that is crying so hard at the loss of a pet?

At Adelaide Pets Alive! we see and experience how difficult it is for many people to surrender the pet that they love. Their undeniable grief is so profound that you feel a sense of sorrow.

Many people have different reasons for surrendering their pet. People’s lives change or medical situations arise, but with each case one thing remains the same, every person surrendering suffers trauma.

Our team supports people during the surrender phase. Not only finding the best home for their pet but also listening. Listening to their beautiful stories, listening to how they have cared for their pet and many times giving them the space to cry.

When we pick up the pet for the last time, this is always the hardest. Watching an adult succumb to their pain and cry so hard is one of the most difficult parts of rehoming animals.

The silver lining to this tale is that the animal finds a better suited home or a home that can give them the attention and love they deserve. If the owner wishes to know the outcome, we can provide an update and photo to help them through their grief.

Many times, surrendering a pet has been a selfless act, not a selfish one.

We have seen so much judgement over surrendering. People making hurtful comments on social media have no insight into their destructive commentary.

At Adelaide Pets Alive! we believe that rehoming pets and helping people comes hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other.
